So. There’s a thing you all need to know. Trust me, you’ll be glad to know it.
I hope you all already listen to the Small Press Big Mouth podcast. If you’re at all interested in the UK small press comics scene- which, if you’re reading this blog, I assume you are, since I’m a part of the UK small press comics scene- then you really should listen to it. It’s great, and they will turn you on to all kinds of awesome stuff.
Early last year, the awesome Stacey Whittle, who co-presents the aforementioned podcast of brilliance, contacted me about contributing to an anthology she was planning on putting together, with a loose theme of fairytales. thrilled at the prospect of such an endeavour, but somewhat stumped by the premise (I’m not exactly a fairytale type of dude) I offered my services as an artist to work with whichever writer she might pick.
Well, cut to a year later, and this book is a real thing. It’s called INTO THE WOODS, and it’s bloody fantastic. My own effort (sneaky peeks of which are shown above, along with the beautiful cover by mister Andy Bloor), The Black Shoes, written by the writer of Sugar Glider, mr Daniel Clifford, sits alongside the work of such fantastic people as Sara Dunkerton, Valia Kapadai, Lee Grice, Simon Wyatt, Stuart Tipples and Bevis (MOTHERFUCKING AMAZING) Musson. It’s GORGEOUS.
YOU NEED TO BUY THIS BOOK. YOU NEED IT IN YOUR LIFE. It launches this coming weekend at Cardiff Comic Con (which I sadly won’t be at, as I will instead be at the London Super Comic Con) so you can snag a copy there, and after that you will be able to order it online here.
Yes, this. Everything David just said. He… huh. There’s a name missing from that roster of fantastic people. I’m certain of it.
