Granted, we don’t really know anything about this, yet. But I can’t help thinking that, if Barbara Gordon is going to be back on her feet as Batgirl, the only people who are really invested in her as that character are the 30-year-long comic fans who DC are supposedly not gearing their output toward any more after this reboot.
I’m nearly 40, have been reading comics most of my life, never “went away”, never really opted into either of the big two’s universes, and Barbara Gordon was never Batgirl for me. That pairing is a Silver Age holdover, and to pretend bringing it back is anything other than pandering to that generation of readers is a little cheeky.
